Books for Babies
OLA has worked with the Children's Librarians of Orange, Ulster and Sullivan Counties (CLOUSC) to secure a $5000 member item grant from State Senator Thomas P. Morahan of the 38th District.
This project partners local libraries and pediatricians to raise awareness of the role of Orange County libraries in emergent literacy and as parenting resource centers. Participating pediatricians will give a coupon to the parents of each newborn at their first office visit.
Parents will then bring the coupon to their local Orange County library and redeem it for a board book and a Books for Babies pamphlet. This pamphlet will explain child developmental stages and will teach parents how to choose age-appropriate literature to share with their child.
Several local pediatric groups have joined with us in this venture.
